Bessie Obsessed

I just love talking, looking and building BESSIE. She is, after all, the "finest road paving machine ever built." --- (Doc Hudson)

The Roller Bar assembly awaiting another "second skin" application on the front and rear of the roller arms. Also, the rear bumper bar will be applied as well. This is different from the first build, because then I did not know how it all fit together. Back then, I was also working around a roller that was in place. Essentially, there is still much modelling type detailing going on. I will have pics after Thanksgiving, but construction is on hold until the holidays are...

Although it may not look like much, work on V2's Roller Assembly is progressing quite well. The Roller is currently detachable, so I can work on the shell in ways that couldn't happen on V1.
To date, the base which holds the roller in place, as well as the rear lighting and gravel bin mounts is 85 % completed. Instead of the wood chips used in V1, several square rods were placed in the center of the base. A thin, cut strip of sheeting was placed over the rods and other...

Lots of Rain in East Texas today. Great day to have a day off! Lots of plans are in motion, but for now....leave work at the office. Tonight, I think I will be recording music tracks for an old music buddy of mine. About to get lunch, turn in this week's cartoon to the paper and then, work on V2's Arm Bar......I just love having the day off......

Bessie has been idle, but by design. When I welded the arm bar, I gave it a full two days to dry. I then began to do delicate stress tests. Gradually, I have become comfortable that the connection will not fall apart with normal use. A discovery: the slat connecting the two ends is pliable. Since the Tamiya shock bases fit cleanly over the bearings and are easily removed, I can do fittings and tests. Independent tests with only the arm bar and the roller show smooth movement. When...

I got the Arts and Crafts department Catalog today.

Bessie will enter The Division E Men's Crafts and Hobbies (18 & above): Crafts: Unique Art. There is a maximum size clause; no larger than 42" x 22". One of the requirements for entry is that the Entry "only be exhibited in the name of the Maker" I hope to include credit to Dean for the decals and Farquhar for Bessie McQueen.

V2's Roller Assembly feels much more fun than V1.

The inserted photos are screen shots from video. In the video, the smoother roll of the roller is demonstrated. The side assemblies come easily on or off as I need them. I currently face the construction issue of making the crossbar. ...

Well, the period of judging has passed. No winners have been announced, nor will they be until next week. Here's waiting. Meanwhile, V2 is still being tested and fitted.

    Hello Tejanovader,
I have just been cut from work and I now have free time to play with customizing these disney cars. I have the stripping down but how do you print out new logo's and put the cars back together again? This is more of a hobby my kids keep giving me ideas but I cn not find out how to do the logo's & graphics. I a very new to this and I'm not sure how to really navigate the site just yet, And seeing the work that you have done is just absoluetly amazing!!! I would greatly appreciate the help to finish a customized car.

    Sorry,

Just saw your comment. I have been on the other end of the spectrum and working too much. I only built Bessie and really do not do customs. I just judge them....ha ha...Good Luck.
